Exodus 7 - 12

Over the past week, I have been reading the Book of Exodus. As I approached the ten plagues many questions arose. The answers can be found with the type of gods and goddesses the Egyptians' worshipped. Each plague was explained by Pharoah as a god or goddess was anger. Please join me in reading Exodus chapters 7 - 12 with the list of gods and goddesses of Egypt.

In the Book of Exodus, there are ten plagues. Each plague was showing God has sovereignty over the gods and goddesses of Egypt.

The first plague was the Nile turned to blood. Hapi is represented by a bull is the god of the Nile. Isis is the goddess of the Nile. Khnum is represented by a ram is the guardian of the Nile.

The second plague was frogs. Hequet is represented as a goddess with a frog head.

The third plague came without a warning as gnats. Set is represented as a god of the desert.

The fourth plague was flies. Re is the sun god. Uatchit is represented as a fly.

The fifth plague killed the livestock. Hathor is a goddess represented with a cow head. Apis is the fertility god represented as a bull.

The sixth plague arrived without a warning was boils. Sekhmet was a goddess over disease represented as having a lion head. Sunu was the god over pestilence. Isis is the goddess of healing.

The seventh plague is hail. Nut is the sky goddess. Osiris is the god of crops and fertility. Set is the god over storms.

The eighth plague is locust. Nut is the sky goddess. Osiris is the god of crops and fertility.

The ninth plague of darkness arrived with no warning. Re and Horus are the sun gods. Nut and Hathor are goddess of the sky.

The tenth plague arrived with no warning was the death of the first-born male of each Egyptian household. Min is the god of reproduction. Hequet is a goddess who attends to women during childbirth. Isis is a goddess whom protected the children.

The time frame for the Nile to flood was July to August. It was normal to see an abundance of frogs in August. Frogs were sacred and were not to be killed. January was the time frame of harvesting flax and barley.

These plagues would have been economically devastating for Egypt.

Frogs were considered to have divine powers and it was against the law to kill them.

The time of year may have been January to April due to the harvesting season of flax and barley.

What is Eschatology?

Eschatology [1] Eschatology: Eschatology refers to the last things. It is the discussion of the return of Jesus. It is a view of theology in the terms of future events. It can be seen in Hebrews 9:28
