Luke 17:1-4 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves. "If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying 'I repent,' you must forgive them."

Keywords: millstone, family, forgive

Millstone: Millstones were used to ground grain for bread. They were two different sizes used as one complete tool. The bottom was a larger stone than the top. The top stone measured about eight inches long by five inches wide and three inches thick. It weighed between three to five pounds. The bottom stone would measure twice the size of the upper stone. There were larger millstones used to grain larger amounts of grain which could weigh hundreds of pounds and require donkeys to move the upper stone.[1]

Family: Children were the instrument to pass on the traditions. In the parable, children may have two meanings. The reference can be for children under the age of twelve as well as adults being given the training in an informal setting.[2]

Forgiveness: Forgiveness is the vital idea of the New Testament. God will forgive all who ask.[3]

Children are the future. It is essential to teach them right from wrong. Teachers are to take their positions seriously. It is a duty to honor God by teaching children the way of the narrow road. Jesus also teaches here to forgive those who ask to be forgiven.

As you go about your day, who is watching you? Are you light? Who are you watching as you go about your day? Are you watching a light? As you go about your day, follow the light and shine bright as well. Practice being light and following light.
