When reading Psalms 23, do you ever relate yourself to the sheep? David was a shepherd, and he cared for his father's sheep. Sheep are timid animals. Other animals will prey on the sheep because they are timid. A good shepherd will keep the sheep safe and away from harm. David explains to King Saul that he killed a bear and a lion to protect his sheep. David writes Psalms 23 to God. David places himself in the care of God as the sheep were in David's care. In the same manner, we are sheep looking to God to protect us. God will provide still waters for us to drink and soft grass to rest upon when we are tired. God will protect us from the lions and bears that seek to harm us. Keep your eyes on God as the sheep kept their eyes on David.
